En Belgique comme en France, au milieu des discours de repentance, il est de plus en plus fréquent d’entendre des voix de quelques excités africains – pourtant peu soucieux de retourner chez eux servir leur pays d’origine – réclamer la restitution de collections d’art africain exposées dans nos musées à la suite de notre passé colonial.
De passage à Bruxelles, Madame Yvette Tabu, commissaire générale de la Culture et des Arts à Kinshasa, a rapidement répondu aux questions de journalistes à ce sujet, démontrant le caractère grotesque de ces revendications.
En effet, Yvette Tabu a souligné que le Musée de Kinshasa ne peut exposer que 12.000 pièces alors qu’il en possède déjà plus de 50.000. « Il ne faudrait pas que l’on rapatrie des objets que nous serions incapables de conserver dans des conditions idéales », a-t-elle sagement conclu.
