De même qu’en France l’appel d’une journée de prière le 15 août 2012 par les évêques en plein débat sur le mariage homosexuel avait créé la polémique, il en est de même en Belgique après l’appel à une journée de prière et de jeûne contre l’euthanasie dont nous avions parlé. Pour le président du Centre d’Action Laïque, l’ancien sénateur socialiste Pierre Galand: « Il est inacceptable qu’une personnalité tente de s’ingérer dans le débat politique. » La présidente de l’ADMD, Jacqueline Herremans, a dénoncé une « terrible pression » de l’Église catholique, qui utilise « des armes qui ne sont pas celles du débat démocratique ». Croirait-elle à la puissance de la prière et du jeûne ?
Eric de Beukelaer, curé-doyen de Liège a rappelé que ce même président du CAL a appelé à manifester contre la modification de la loi sur l’avortement en Espagne, s’immisçant ainsi de manière peu démocratique dans un débat qui ne le concerne pas. Quant à Jacqueline Herremans, elle a refusé de débattre sur RTBF avec les Dossards Jaunes quant aux dysfonctionnements de la loi sur l’euthanasie. Il n’est plus besoin de prouver leur haine du catholicisme !
