La NSA est capable d’espionner des ordinateurs qui ne sont pas reliés à Internet, dévoile le New York Times en se basant sur des documents officiels fournis par Edward Snowden, mais aussi sur les déclarations d’experts et de personnalités officielles du gouvernement américain.
Cette technologie, dont le nom de code est Quantum, est utilisée depuis au moins 2008 et utilise une fréquence radio cryptée émise par l’ordinateur espionné à travers une carte réseau ou une clef USB subrepticement intégrée à celui-ci.
Cela signifie que l’installation de la connexion est obligatoirement physique, que ce soit par un agent, le fabriquant de l’appareil ou un utilisateur manipulé. Grâce à ce signal, l’ordinateur visé est à la merci des ordinateurs de la NSA ou d’une station relai portable de la taille d’une valise, et ce dans un rayon de plusieurs kilomètres.
