Ils étaient plusieurs centaines de personnes à avoir répondu à l’appel de Chrétienté-Solidarité jeudi soir à proximité de l’ambassade du Pakistan à Paris afin de soutenir Asia Bibi, chrétienne condamnée à la peine capitale pour blasphème envers l’islam.
Celle-ci, après avoir été accusée par des femmes avec qui elle venait d’avoir un différent d’avoir insulté le prophète Mohammed , avait été condamnée en première instance à la peine capitale.
Ses avocats ont introduit un recours auprès de la cour suprême après que cette sentence ait été confirmée jeudi 16 octobre par la cour d’appel de Lahore.
Au Pakistan, la loi contre le blasphème est utilisée pour régler des comptes personnels ou pour tenter de persécuter les minorités religieuses. Ceux qui, par le passé, se sont opposés à cette loi, ont perdu la vie à l’instar du gouverneur du Pendjab Salman Taseer assassiné par son garde du corps en janvier 2011 ou le ministre des minorités religieuses Shahbaz Bhatti abattu dans sa voiture deux mois plus tard. Tous deux apportaient leur soutien à Asia Bibi.
