La messe noire qui devait se tenir à Harvard s’est finalement déroulée au deuxième étage d’un restaurant chinois, près de l’université. Environ 50 membres du Temple satanique de New York y ont participé. Les assistants étaient tous vêtus de noir.
Diverses sources confirment qu’il n’a pas été fait usage d’hostie consacrée.
Le propriétaire du restaurant, Paul Lee, a assuré aux médias ne pas avoir su avant l’événement ce qui allait se passer dans son établissement.

Le Temple satanique, organisateur de cette messe noire, avait perdu son autorisation de pratiquer cette célébration dans le Hall du Mémorial d’Harvard suite à la protestation massive des catholiques des Etats-Unis.
La nuit même où était programmée la messe noire satanique sur le campus de l’Université de Harvard, un groupe de satanistes, mené par deux hommes, a surgi dans la chapelle de Swedenborg située face à l’université, alors que s’y tenait une célébration religieuse. Un des satanistes arrêté a affirmé aux médias : “Satan est beau, est grand, est lumière, l’unique espérance est Lucifer ».
