La Maison Blanche a annoncé mardi la nomination de Raffi Freedman-Gurspan en tant que directeur pour le recrutement du personnel présidentiel au bureau du personnel. Le lobby LGBT s’en félicite en signalant qu’il est le premier fonctionnaire officiellement engagé en tant que transgenre pour servir à la Maison Blanche.
Freedman-Gurspan était auparavant conseiller politique pour le Centre national pour l’égalité transgenre, la justice économique et raciale.
Né au Honduras, Raffi Freedman-Gurspan a été adopté par une femme juive de Brooklyn et a milité au collège au sein de l’Organisation des Etudiants Juifs, la Jewish Students Organization (JSO). Sa nomination à la Maison Blanche a été saluée par la direction de Keshet, une organisation juive LGBT qui considère que cette « femme juive trans de couleur » va faire beaucoup pour que les trans soient acceptés dans les synagogues.
Valerie Jarrett, conseillère à la Maison Blanche, a déclaré que l’engagement de Freedman-Gurspan devait contribuer à améliorer la vie des Américains transgenres et reflète les valeurs de l’administration du président Obama.
