L’hôpital Lakeridge Health, situé à Oshawa en Ontario, mène une campagne de recrutement en ciblant les femmes musulmanes. Discrimination à l’envers ?
L’affiche – destinée aux rues de Montréal et relayée sur Facebook – présente une jeune femme musulmane, stéthoscope au cou et voile sur la tête, avec pour slogan « Nous ne nous soucions pas de ce qui est sur votre tête. Ce qui compte, c’est ce qui est dedans. »
L’établissement hospitalier, à la recherche de médecins et d’infirmières, en profite pour affirmer son hostilité au projet controversé de Charte des valeurs québécoises qui prévoit l’interdiction des signes religieux « ostentatoires » – le voile en premier lieu – pour les fonctionnaires et les agents des services publics de Québec et du niqab pour les usagers des services publics.
Cette Charte des valeurs – appelée initialement « Charte de la laïcité » – est une initiative du gouvernement de la province francophone de Québec. Son esprit est cependant différent, semble-t-il, du fondamentalisme laïque qui se développe en France. En effet, le gouvernement du Québec précise que « parce que la religion a occupé un rôle fondamental dans l’histoire du Québec, le gouvernement souhaite protéger certains éléments emblématiques, comme le crucifix de l’Assemblée nationale ».
