En novembre dernier, un rapport avait été publié par l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS) dans lequel elle expliquait que l’utilisation du contraceptif appelé Depo-provera n’augmentait pas le risque d’être infecté par le sida. Ce contraceptif est par ailleurs distribué aux femmes américaines et africaines délibérément.
Quelques semaines auparavant, les lignes directrices de l’OMS étaient bien différentes par rapport à l’usage de ce contraceptif puisque dans un autre rapport, elle soutenait tout le contraire, c’est-à-dire, qu’il augmentait le risque de transmission.
Ceux qui sont en faveur des droits des personnes ayant été contaminées par le sida se sont prononcés contre ce détournement des évènements et ont signalé que l’OMS a changé d’avis sur la mise en garde de ce contraceptif surement à cause d’une motivation extérieure montrée par des groupements ayant des intérêts particuliers, tel est le cas de la Fondation Bill et Melinda Gates.
Ce contraceptif, qui est d’action prolongée, a été distribué par la Fondation Gates aux femmes dans les zones les plus pauvres des États-Unis par le biais de programmes de soutien externe. 40 milliard de dollars ont été donnés par cette Fondation.
En plus de la Fondation Gates, le gouvernement américain et le Royaume-Uni sont des donneurs très importants pour l’OMS. C’est Melinda Gates qui a proposé cette initiative d’aide financière internationale.
Avant le lancement de ladite initiative, l’OMS encourageait les femmes en provenance de communautés ayant un taux élevé du VIH, et qui utilisaient le Depo-Provera, à utiliser des préservatifs.
Néanmoins, un changement dans la politique de l’OMS est en train de se mettre en place, car elle n’avertit plus les femmes sur les risques de ce contraceptif.
Plus de quarante associations de santé sexuelle et reproductive ont lancé un appel pour obliger la directrice générale à retirer de son site internet les nouvelles lignes directrices concernant ce contraceptif jusqu’à ce qu’un processus de consultation rigoureuse soit présenté et approuvé dans une table ronde.
