Le 20 février 2020, le parlement de Floride a adopté une loi interdisant de pratiquer un avortement sur une fille de moins de 18 ans sans le consentement d’un de ses parents. Toutefois, en cas d’abus, d’inceste où s’il y a eu violence des parents contre cette fille mineure, celle-ci pourra demander à un juge d’être dispensée de cette autorisation parentale.
Pour être trop timide, cette loi va néanmoins dans le bon sens. Le nombre d’avortements en Floride a reculé de 95 586 en 2006 à 70 190 en 2018 (-26,6%) mais le taux d’avortement (nombre d’avortements annuels pour 1000 femmes de 15 à 44 ans) reste supérieur à la moyenne nationale: 18,0 pour 1000 femmes de cet âge en 2017 en Floride contre 13,5 sur l’ensemble des Etats-Unis la même année (et 19,9 pour 1000 femmes en 2006).
La loi a été adoptée par la chambre des représentants par 75 voix contre 43. Le gouverneur de Floride, Ron Desantis, devrait en principe valider cette loi.
