Jaelyn Delshaun Young (20 ans) et Muhammad Oda Dakhalla (22 ans) étaient sur le point de partir pour la Syrie rejoindre l’Etat Islamique.
Lui est le fils d’un imam local. Elle est la fille d’un officier de police de Vicksburg converti récemment à l’islam. Tous les deux étaient étudiants à l’Université d’Etat du Mississipi et s’étaient mariés en juin dernier. Pour leur voyage de noce, ils avaient l’intention de rejoindre l’Etat Islamique en Syrie !
Ils avaient prévu de prendre un vol vers l’Europe, puis de rejoindre la Turquie pour finir en Syrie. Mais ils ont tous les deux été arrêtés à l’aéroport de Columbus au Mississipi. Ils se sont faits piégés en communiquant sur les réseaux sociaux où opèrent des policiers sous fausse identité.
Le couple discutait naïvement sur les réseaux sociaux pour offrir les compétences des jeunes époux à l’Etat Islamique. Lui avait des compétences en informatique, elle en chimie.
Tous les deux ont été fascinés par la tuerie dans la caserne de Chattanooga (Tennessee) au cours de laquelle quatre Marines et un soldat de la Navy ont été tués. Selon ce couple, cette tuerie aurait nettement contribué à augmenter le nombre de partisans de l’Etat Islamique parmi la jeunesse américaine !
