Un psychothérapeute italien, Claudio Risé, analyse le phénomène qui conduit des garçons à vouloir changer de sexe :
« Ils le font non pas parce qu’ils se sentent femme physiquement ou sexuellement, mais parce qu’ils trouvent insupportable la condition de l’homme aujourd’hui.
« Médias, politiques, spectacles, présentent les femmes comme étant belles et intelligentes et les hommes comme étant laids et stupides. Malheureusement ces garçons sont conformistes (comme la majeur partie de leurs camarades) et donc ils ne réussissent pas à penser avec leur tête. Et pour cela ils voudraient faire court et devenir femme, mettant fin ainsi à leurs difficultés. »
Pour le psychothérapeute la société « méprise les garçons » et « récompense les femmes avec des louanges exagérées et des avantages non stop » :
« C’est pour cela qu’ils veulent devenir femme et ainsi éviter bien des difficultés qu’ils auraient en restant homme. Et comme souvent ils sont plutôt beaux, ils rêvent de devenir star ou une personne influente, au lieu de rester un pauvre garçon, dont personne ne se soucie, puisque la bonne, la courageuse et l’appréciée est toujours la femme. Selon les jeunes garçons qui en ont marre, le sexe féminin est au centre du monde tandis que le leur est seulement méprisé et considéré dégoûtant. »
