Pakistan – Après de longues années de calvaire, la chrétienne Asia Bibi a été acquittée en appel par la Cour suprême du Pakistan. Elle avait été condamnée à mort pour blasphème en 2010. Le verdict d’acquittement a été rendu mercredi.
« Elle a été acquittée de toutes les accusations », a déclaré le juge Saqib Nisar, précisant qu’Asia Bibi, incarcérée dans une prison à Multan, allait être libérée « immédiatement » .
Il faut néanmoins s’attendre à ce que ce verdict suscite des violences antichrétiennes à l’appel de certains religieux islamistes qui exigeaient l’exécution d’Asia Bibi. Des juges de la Cour suprême avaient d’ailleurs subi des menaces au cours des dernières semaines.
Après l’annonce du verdict rendu par la Cour suprême, la capitale Islamabad a été placée sous haute sécurité, avec des barrages sur les routes notamment à proximité des quartiers où vivent les magistrats et la communauté diplomatique.
« Asia ne peut pas rester (au Pakistan) », a déjà déclaré le mari d’Asia Bibi, Ashiq Masih, exilé à Londres.
