En 2015, les 200 ans de la bataille de Waterloo devraient attirer près de 120.000 personnes dont potentiellement des chefs d’État. Les responsables du site et les bourgmestres des communes concernées ont présenté un programme des festivités. Cinq mille reconstituants viendront du monde entier pour bivouaquer sur place et participer au bicentenaire de la bataille de Waterloo. Le budget global d’organisation dépasse 4 millions d’euros. L’asbl Waterloo 1815, en charge de l’organisation du bicentenaire, a passé un marché avec l’agence VO Communication, qui a mis sur pied une vaste campagne nationale et internationale pour promouvoir les festivités.
Les cinq jours de commémoration s’ouvriront le 17 juin 2015 avec l’inauguration de la ferme d’Hougoumont rénovée. Le lendemain, le champ de bataille sera illuminé par un spectacle son et lumière tandis que les deux reconstitutions de bataille, pour lesquelles 120.000 spectateurs sont attendus, auront lieu les vendredi 19 et samedi 20 juin 2015 en soirée. Le dimanche 21 juin, des cortèges et des animations diverses seront organisées à Waterloo et Braine-l’Alleud.
