André Castelot (1911-2004) fut un grand vulgarisateur et un remarquable conteur d’Histoire. Auteur à succès, il reçut en 1984 le Grand Prix d’histoire de l’Académie française pour l’ensemble de son œuvre. Les édition Perrin viennent de rééditer sa biographie de Fouché.
Joseph Fouché (1759-1820), duc d’Otrante, est parvenu à jouer un rôle capital durant la Révolution, le Directoire, le Consulat, l’Empire, la Restauration et les Cent-Jours.
Mitrailleur de Lyon, régicide, il a même réussi, par une ultime palinodie, à devenir le ministre de Louis XVIII, dont il avait pourtant envoyé le frère à l’échafaud !
Ce livre nous décrit les étapes successives les plus incroyables de l’existence de ce personnage roublard, conspirateur et calculateur, extraordinairement habile, grâce à son redoutable cynisme, à se relever de toutes les disgrâces.
