Le mardi 16 avril, après avoir siégé plus de trente ans au sein du Parlement européen, Jean-Marie Le Pen fera ses adieux à cette assemblée, tout en ajoutant qu’il ne compte pas pour autant se retirer de la vie politique.
Cité par Le Journal du dimanche, il précisé qu’il aurait aimé se faire réélire pour un dernier mandat, « comme Molière qui souhaitait mourir sur les planches ». Mais Marine Le Pen en a décidé autrement.
C’est en 1984 que Jean-Marie Le Pen a fait son entrée au Parlement européen. Grâce à lui, le Front National vient alors de franchir pour la première fois la barre des 10% de votes au plan national. Dix députés européens du Front National vont siéger à Strasbourg. Il s’agit de « la première victoire après une longue traversée du désert », se souvient Jean-Marie Le Pen.
« J’espère obtenir au moins une ou deux minutes de façon à dire à mes collègues ce que je pense de cette institution, de son évolution et de sa ruine programmée », déclare Jean-Marie Le Pen dans son dernier « Journal de bord » d’eurodéputé, mis en ligne sur son site internet.
