L’acteur Roger Moore est au centre de la tourmente médiatique, accusé de racisme à la suite d’une interview publiée dans Paris Match.
Depuis plusieurs mois, se fondant sur des fuites de l’entourage d’Amy Pascal, présidente de Sony, des rumeurs circulent, laissant entendre que l’acteur noir Idris Elba pourrait incarner James Bond à la suite de Daniel Craig.
En décembre 2014, c’est Rush Limbaugh, animateur de télé américain, qui avait trouvé l’idée saugrenue. « James Bond est un concept conçu par Ian Fleming. Il est blanc et écossais. Point Barre. C’est son identité. Et à présent, ils suggèrent que le prochain James Bond soit Idris Elba, un Britannique noir, plus un Blanc d’Ecosse. Ce n’est pas James Bond et je sais que c’est probablement raciste de le mentionner« , déclarait l’animateur, ajoutant que cela équivalait à choisir George Clooney pour jouer le rôle de Barack Obama.
Selon Paris-Match, Roger Moore aurait tenu des propos assez similaires : « Bien que James (Bond) ait été joué par un Écossais, un Gallois, un Irlandais, je pense qu’il doit être Anglais-Anglais. C’est néanmoins une idée intéressante, mais irréaliste. […] Il y a des années, j’ai dit que Cuba Gooding Jr [l’acteur noir américain, NDLR] ferait un excellent Bond mais c’était une plaisanterie!«
Mais le vieux Roger Moore n’a pas résisté longtemps aux accusations de racisme. Sur son compte Twitter, il a corrigé le tir : « Une interview que j’ai accordée à Paris Match laisse entendre que j’ai dit quelque chose de raciste sur Idris Elba. C’est simplement faux dans la traduction. »
Quant au responsable des pages « Culture » de Paris Match, Benjamin Locoge, il affirme, « enregistrement de la conversation à l’appui, que les propos de Roger Moore avaient été fidèlement retranscrits« . « Roger Moore sous-entend que ce serait compliqué d’avoir un James Bond noir dans le sens où on ne peut imaginer un Général de Gaulle joué par un acteur noir et James Brown par un blanc. Il ne faut pas interpréter ses propos comme du racisme et la twittosphère s’est sans doute emballée un peu vite.»
