Alors que la conférence des évêques italiens, en suivant la ligne immigrationniste imposée par le pape François, s’est déclarée favorable à cette refonte, voulue par les communistes, les socialistes et le centre, de la loi de nationalité qui permettrait à tout mineur né sur le sol italien mais de parents étrangers d’avoir la citoyenneté italienne, les identitaires italiens, menés par Matteo Salvini, chef emblématique du parti La Ligue du Nord et à la pointe du combat, manifestent publiquement leur opposition.
« Non au Droit du Sol ! » C’est la pancarte, déployée par les militants de La Ligue, qui est apparue sur le fronton de la célèbre terrasse du Pincio, en plein centre de Rome.
Pendant qu’au Sénat, les sénateurs de centre-droit, de La Ligue et de Forza Italia sont en train de se battre pour empêcher que passe ce dessein de loi qui « offre la nationalité aux immigrés », les nationalistes ont organisé une protestation symbolique pour rappeler que « la nationalité doit être désirée et conquise ! Nous ne lâcherons pas ! »
