Le Pôle Musées de Tulle présente, au sein du Musée des Armes, du jusqu’au 7 janvier 2019, une exposition de photographies de la Grande Guerre provenant d’une donation privée de plaques de verre stéréoscopiques éditées après la Première Guerre mondiale.
Cette exposition de photographies est l’occasion de mettre en lumière les conditions de vie des soldats, qu’il s’agisse des Allemands ou des Français et de leurs alliés, au cours du conflit, de la mobilisation le 2 août 1914 au défilé de la Victoire du 14 juillet 1919.
Les scènes de la vie quotidienne des soldats dans les tranchées, la promiscuité dans la boue, l’attente avant les offensives, l’évolution de l’armement ou les conséquences du conflit dans l’arrière front sont présentés au public au travers de photographies rares et originales.

Depuis la fin du XVIIe siècle, la ville de Tulle a été le berceau d’une manufacture d’armes. Cette industrie contribue à l’existence d’un patrimoine d’exception, relatif à l’armement et aux techniques de savoir-faire et de fabrications.
Le musée a été créé en 1979 par le personnel de la manufacture et implanté sur le site de la manufacture, il est devenu municipal en 1999. Il propose un panorama de l’armement de fabrication française et étrangère avec une priorité accordée au patrimoine industriel identitaire tulliste.
