Nous avons déjà insisté ici sur l’extraordinaire maîtrise des outils de communication moderne que l’on constate chez les djihadistes. Le magazine Inspire, publié en anglais, en est un exemple supplémentaire. Sa mise en page est à la pointe de ce qui se fait en infographie. Lancé en 2010, ce magazine djihadiste situé dans la mouvance al-Qaida est publié au Yemen par un Américain converti à l’islam, Adam Gadahn. A un rythme trimestriel, il délivre des conseils aux apprentis djihadistes. Des pages didactiques expliquent notamment « comment fabriquer une bombe dans la cuisine de votre mère« , photos à l’appui.
Le magazine s’adresse notamment aux musulmans en Occident : « Les musulmans en Occident doivent savoir qu’ils sont parfaitement positionnés pour jouer un rôle décisif dans le djihad (…) Alors qu’attendez-vous ?« .
Il y est notamment conseillé de « pratiquer le djihad individuel sur sa terre, là où il vit, sans avoir à affronter les épreuves du voyage vers les terres où le djihad est possible« . Des propos qui semblent avoir inspiré les récents crimes djihadistes au Canada.
