La police indiennes a libéré des centaines d’enfants esclaves forcés de travailler jusqu’à seize heures par jour. Pendant plusieurs jours, des opérations de police ont été menées dans les magasins à Hyderabad où trente trafiquants ont été arrêtés.
Les contrôles de ce seul jeudi dans les magasins vendant des bracelets et autres breloques ont permis à la police de découvrir 120 enfants esclaves, dont plusieurs malades, mal nourris et traumatisés, a déclaré le sous-commissaire Satyanarayana. « Ils ont des maladies chroniques de la peau et sont dans un état de malnutrition. Ils sont clairement en état de choc », a ajouté l’officier.
Les enfants ont raconté qu’ils devaient travailler jusqu’à seize heures par jour sans interruption. Ils ne recevaient pas de nourriture s’ils n’obéissaient pas.
Les enfants ont généralement été vendus à des trafiquants par leurs parents pour un montant entre 5000 (80 $) et 10 000 roupies ($ 160).
Environ 220 enfants avaient été libérés la semaine dernière par la police dans le cadre de cette opération. Certains d’entre eux étaient âgés d’à peine 6 ans.
