Hillary Clinton, ancien secrétaire d’Etat américain et candidate démocrate à la présidence des États-Unis aux élections de 2016, a encouragé un enfant à vivre dans l’homosexualité. La page Facebook « Humans of New York » (habitants de New York) a montré la photo d’un enfant, les yeux baissés et l’air malheureux, avec comme légende: «Je suis gay et j’ai peur de ce que sera mon avenir et de ne pas plaire aux gens« . Deux heures plus tard, Hillary Clinton, 67 ans, a répondu avec un message « d’adulte » lui pronostiquant un «avenir fantastique« . « Tu seras surpris toi-même de tes capacités et des choses étonnantes que tu feras. Tu rencontreras des gens qui t’aiment et qui croient en toi. Ils seront nombreux».
La photo ainsi que le commentaire de l’ancien secrétaire d’État ont connu un succès médiatique, au point que certains se demandent si tout cela n’était pas orchestré et si cet enfant n’a pas été manipulé par l’équipe de campagne d’Hillary Clinton, avec l’aide de journalistes et du lobby LGBT. Le tweet est signé par un « H », indication qu’Hillary Clinton a personnellement écrit le message et non un de ses collaborateurs, note le journal « New York Times ». Clinton a fait du soutien aux homosexuels un des aspects centraux de sa campagne.
