Jusqu’au 9 décembre 2018, l’exposition Les armes savantes – 350 ans d’innovations militaires à Versailles présente les liens entre le territoire versaillais et les innovations militaires. Ces liens, nés de la centralisation du pouvoir monarchique sous l’Ancien Régime, sont toujours d’actualité au XXIe siècle.
L’exposition met en scène une sélection d’objets, d’œuvres et de documents provenant des collections d’institutions patrimoniales nationales (musée de l’Armée, service historique de la Défense, musée des Plans-Reliefs…) et versaillaises (musée Lambinet, Bibliothèque centrale, Archives communales), mais également des documents et objets conservés par des institutions militaires et des industriels de l’armement basés à Versailles.
