George Pickering, un Américain de 59 ans, a sauvé la vie de son fils en se retranchant dans sa chambre d’hôpital à Houston, Texas hôpital.
Les médecins avaient déclaré la mort cérébrale et se préparaient à déconnecter les machines qui maintenaient en vie le fils de George. La mère et le frère du malade avaient consenti au débranchement. George Pickering était sûr que son fils pouvait survivre et, après avoir tenté en vain de faire revenir sur leur décision médecin et famille, a décidé d’agir par la force.
L’homme est allé à l’hôpital armé et s’est barricadé dans la chambre de son fils. Après avoir menacé le personnel de l’hôpital, il a abandonné son arme sur l’insistance d’un autre de ses fils, et a finalement obtenu que son fils ne soit pas euthanasié.
Heureusement qu’il est intervenu de la sorte car, peu de temps après, son fils s’est réveillé de son coma.
« Le SWAT (ndlr : unité spéciale de police intervenue lorsque le père est arrivé armé dans l’hôpital) a ses propres médecins et quand ils sont entrés dans le service de soins intensifs, ils virent que George Jr. n’était pas en mort cérébrale parce qu’il y avait contact visuel et suivi des ordres», rapporte l’avocat de la famille.
George Pickering assure que son fils lui avait serré la main à plusieurs reprises durant le temps où il s’était enfermé dans la chambre. George s’est rendu aux autorités et a été accusé de voies de fait graves avec arme, mais cela n’a pas été en vain, puisque son fils récupère et est hors de danger.
Ce courageux père a été libéré au début de ce mois de décembre et a retrouvé son fils George Jr, qui apprécie le courage de son père.
« Une loi a été violée, mais elle a été brisée pour les bonnes raisons, c’était l’amour, de l’amour pur« , dit-il.
