Le pasteur noir James Dukes veut également remplacer les références à Andrew Jackson au motif qu’il possédait des esclaves. Et le pasteur noir de proposer sans rire d’y substituer la référence au révérend noir Jesse Jackson ou au chanteur noir Michael Jackson.
Il y a quelques jours, lors d’une conférence de presse, le président Donald Trump avait anticipé : « Cette semaine, c’est Robert E. Lee. Je me demande si ce sera au tour de George Washington la semaine prochaine et puis Thomas Jefferson la semaine suivante? Vous savez, vous devez vraiment vous demander, où cela s’arrêtera-t-il?«
