Au Pakistan, les pouvoirs politiques et judiciaires semblent unis pour garantir la liberté et la vie sûre à Asia Bibi.
D’après des informations recueillies par le quotidien italien Vatican Insider, « divers éléments font espérer une conclusion heureuse » d’ici la fin du mois de janvier pour la femme chrétienne condamnée à mort pour blasphème en 2010, acquittée par la Cour Suprême du Pakistan le 31 octobre dernier mais toujours retenue dans son pays à cause d’un recours émis par certains groupes islamistes auprès de la Cour Suprême afin que le dernier verdict soit révisé.
« Selon ce qui filtre de la chancellerie, écrit Vatican Insider, la Cour suprême pourrait émettre une décision définitive sur la cas d’Asia Bibi d’ici fin janvier. […] Sans audiences ni débats, la Cour devra revoir la sentence du 31 octobre 2018 pour relever d’éventuels vices de forme et de procédure. Que la Cour renie et révoque un jugement qu’elle a elle-même émis il y a deux mois, pour un cas aussi sensible et international, paraît hautement improbable. L’équipe des avocats d’Asia Bibi ‘’croit à 100 % au rejet de cette instance’’. Cela mettrait un point final au cas et rendrait Asia Bibi, une fois pour toutes, une femme réellement libre. Libre de disposer de sa vie.
« Sur la plan politique, mêmes signaux positifs offerts par le gouvernement de Imran Khan qui apparaît décider à tenir l’affaire d’Asia Bibi dans les cadres de la légalité et de la justice. […] Ces derniers jours, le premier ministre Khan, au cours d’un entretien à la télévision turque Trt World, a répété que ‘’sur le cas d’Asia Bibi l’État ne peut pas être l’otage de groupes violents’’ et qu’il a du adopter des mesures contre qui n’acceptent pas le verdict de la Cour Suprême. […]
« Les contacts entre les chancelleries des pays occidentaux se poursuivent entre-temps afin d’organiser l’expatriation d’Asia Bibi et de sa famille, possible uniquement après la voie libre définitive donnée par la Cour Suprême. […]
« 500 chefs religieux, de tous les courants de pensée islamiste en ont pris acte, en s’exposant publiquement en souscrivant à la Déclaration d’Islamabad […] qui cite explicitement Asia Bibi et demande que la Cour Suprême se prononce le plus vite possible pour mettre fin aux injustes souffrances de la femme innocente. »
