Ces mots ont été prononcés par le secrétaire d’État belge à l’Asile et à la Migration, Theo Francken, qui prépare un projet de loi visant à contraindre les demandeurs d’asile à soumettre leur téléphone et ordinateur portables à un contrôle pour permettre d’établir leur identité.
Une directive européenne permet de mettre en œuvre une telle disposition en Belgique, a-t-il expliqué lors d’une visite au Danemark.
Vérifier le contenu des GSM et des ordinateurs des demandeurs d’asile, ainsi que leur profil Facebook, peut s’avérer utile. « Quelqu’un peut prétendre qu’il était emprisonné à Bagdad et avoir posté une photo de lui à la plage », a argumenté le directeur de l’Office, Freddy Rosemont. Mais actuellement, un demandeur peut refuser que l’on contrôle son téléphone ou son ordinateur.
Cependant, ce projet de loi est déjà quasiment mort-né car tous les autres membres du gouvernement belge, y compris les autres membres de la NVA, parti auquel appartient Theo Francken, se sont déjà déclarés hostiles à cette mesure.
