Alors que la plupart des autres conseils municipaux ont adopté des cartes de vœux sans référence à la Nativité, les conseillers de Banbridge ont opté pour une carte postale qui illustre la naissance du Christ.
Selon une enquête réalisée par l’Institut chrétien, à peine la moitié des conseils municipaux du Royaume-Uni comptent envoyer des cartes de vœux mentionnant spécifiquement la référence à Noël.
A Banbridge, au contraire, les résidents devraient recevoir une carte qui dit: «Alors que nous célébrons la naissance du Christ, que l’Amour de Dieu soit avec vous en cette saison de Noël et à jamais. »
Les conseils municipaux ont majoritairement oublié le vrai sens de Noël. Leurs cartes de vœux indiquant simplement « joyeuses fêtes ».
Marie Hamilton, président du conseil de Banbridge, a déclaré: « Je ne pense pas qu’il devrait y avoir un besoin de s’excuser parce que Noël est une fête chrétienne. »
