Uruguay – Dans un communiqué en vue des prochaines élections générales du 26 octobre, les évêques uruguayens ont appelé « à faire de ce pays un endroit où la vie humaine et où chaque famille aient une valeur supérieure à un hectare de terre, à un compte en banque, un diplôme universitaire ou une compétence particulière et pour que les aspirations de la jeunesse ne soient pas orientées uniquement vers les téléphones portables, les motos ou les moyens pour faire de l’argent ».
Les évêques demandent aux citoyens de prier pour «les futurs dirigeants» qui seront élus et ont exprimé la nécessité de voter en faveur d’une société qui offrirait à ses membres la possibilité de «développer les talents que Dieu a donné à chacun d’entre nous. »
Le communiqué des évêques se termine par une invitation à participer à la Journée de prière pour la Nation, le 12 octobre.
Les élections présidentielles et législatives auront lieu en Uruguay le 26 octobre. Le second tour sera le 30 novembre. La nouveauté de cette élection viendra du nombre de nouveaux électeurs: 250 000 jeunes qui ont grandi avec les nouvelles technologies et ont totalement intégré les nouveaux réseaux sociaux mondiaux, mais qui sont aussi éloignés des médias traditionnels.
L’Uruguay a une population de 3.381.000 habitants, dont 2.603.000 catholiques.
