Le 25 mai, il n’y a pas que l’élection européenne. Le même jour, les Français expatriés votent également pour élire les conseillers consulaires. Une élection dont il est peu question malgré son importance. En effet, les 443 conseillers consulaires élus au soir du 25 mai voteront à leur tour en septembre pour élire 12 sénateurs représentant les Français de l’étranger.
Or ces élections consulaires sont l’occasion d’un pugilat intra-UMP en Belgique et au Canada sur base des rivalités bien connues entre François Fillon et Jean-François Copé, ce qui augure de belles tensions en perspective au sein du parti en septembre prochain.
En Belgique, les Français expatriés sympathisants de l’UMP ont donc le choix entre l’Union des Français et Françaises de Belgique avec François Fillon, vice-président de l’UMP et l’Union UMP, UDI, MoDem, PCD.
Au Canada, le duel intra-UMP oppose la Droite unie, soutien à Alain Juppé, François Fillon, Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Nicolas Sarkozy et à l’UMP à l’Union des républicains de droite et du centre, avec le soutien de l’UMP.
