L’association humanitaire Human Relief Foundation (HRF) avait envoyé des bénévoles et du matériel à Calais. Mais l’association caritative a décidé de mettre fin à son aide après la visite récente de son directeur exécutif, Kassim Tokan, au camp « New Jungle » à Calais.
Kassim Tokan explique avoir été choqué de voir des migrants qui « brûlent la nourriture et les vêtements » de l’aide humanitaire. « Sur le coup je pensais qu’ils avaient une raison valable, mais la majorité d’entre eux n’ont pas de raison… ils veulent juste y aller [au Royaume-Uni] pour avoir de l’argent, une meilleure situation économique. »
Kassim Tokan a aussi souligné que 95 à 97 % des migrants étaient de jeunes hommes. Certains d’entre eux lui ont dit qu’ils étaient contents de rester dans le camp.
Tout cela a poussé Kassim Tokan à décider que l’HRF réorientera ses aides humanitaires vers les Syriens réfugiés au Liban ou en Cisjordanie, déclarant que les migrants de Calais n’en ont nul besoin.
« Ils ont suffisamment de nourriture, ils ont suffisamment de vêtements qu’ils les répandent partout dans le camp. », a déclaré Kassim Tokan à ITV.
« Ces gens viennent de quelques pays, qui ne sont pas en guerre, tout est là bas, ils peuvent y travailler, je ne sais pas pourquoi ils sont là. »
