La djihad séduit dans tous les milieux, même parmi les joueurs de foot ! En 2008, Burak Karan était un espoir de Thomas Hengen, entraîneur allemand de l’Alemannia Aachen (club d’Aix-la-Chapelle). Cinq ans plus tard, le jeune Burak Karan est mort aux côtés des djihadistes combattant le régime de Bachar el-Assad en Syrie.
Le jeune footballeur de 20 ans avait une carrière qui s’annonçait pourtant prometteuse. Burak Karan comptait déjà sept sélections dans la Mannschaft (équipe nationale allemande) des moins de 16 et 17 ans. Il avait côtoyé de futures stars du ballon rond comme l’actuel milieu de terrain du Real Madrid Sami Khedira ou Kevin-Prince Boateng, international ghanéen.
Mais lorsque la guerre a éclaté en Syrie au printemps 2011, « il a levé des fonds » a expliqué son frère au mazine Bild. Plus tard, il a décidé de partir avec sa femme et ses deux fils jusqu’à la frontière turque.
Sa sœur raconte à l’hebdomadaire allemand Focus : « Il ne parlait plus que de djihad (guerre sainte) et autres folies guerrières ».
Burak Karan était soupçonné de préparer « des actes de violence mettant en danger l’État » depuis 2010 et surveillé de près par les autorités allemandes, rappelle Der Spiegel.
C’est en octobre dernier, dans un village près d’Azaz, au nord-ouest de la Syrie, que Burak Karan, alors âgé de 26 ans, est mort en combattant avec les djihadistes. Les autorités allemandes tentent de comprendre le parcours du jeune djihadiste depuis son arrivée au Moyen-Orient. Quelques jours après sa mort, une vidéo postée sur YouTube présente Burak Karan qui se faisait appeler Abu Abdullah al-Turki, kalachnikov en main.
Cela n’a pas empêché son ancien coéquipier en équipe nationale junior, Kevin-Prince Boateng, de lui rendre hommage sur son compte Twitter : « Repose en paix Burak, mon frère. Je ne t’oublierai jamais, tu étais un véritable ami. » Pas sûr que ce genre de tweet soit le meilleur moyen de dissuader des jeunes musulmans de rejoindre les djihadistes…
