Le renvoi de quelques jours de l’euthanasie du petit Charlie Gard destiné par les médecins à mourir « au nom de la dignité humaine » lui sauvera peut-être la vie, jusqu’à ce que la mort naturelle ne l’emporte.
Une campagne de sensibilisation sur son cas et un appel à l’aide au président des États-Unis avaient été lancés par différents mouvements pro-vie afin que soit respectée la décision des parents de l’emmener se faire soigner de façon expérimentale de l’autre côté de l’Atlantique.
Appel entendu par Donald Trump. De la Maison Blanche est arrivée un tweet : «Si nous pouvons aider le petit Charlie Gard, comme nos amis de Grande-Bretagne et le pape, nous serons heureux de le faire. »
Un porte-parole a ensuite précisé que Trump n’a pas souhaité parler avec les parents de l’enfant pour ne pas exercer de pression mais que les membres de l’administration ont eu des contacts directs, facilités par le gouvernement de Theresa May qui s’est limitée à dire : « Toutes nos pensées sont avec Charlie et sa famille. »
Cette initiative de Washington, précise Vatican Insider, est soutenue par des médecins américains « qui proposent d’appliquer gratuitement ce traitement expérimental » et par un hôpital qui le recevrait.
