Maysa al Amoudi est une journaliste âgée de 33 ans et bien connue pour ses émissions à la télévision saoudienne.
Loujain al Hathloul est une jeune femme de 25 ans.
Elles menaient une campagne pour permettre aux femmes saoudiennes de pouvoir conduire une voiture, ce qui est interdit en Arabie saoudite.
Cette campagne avait pris beaucoup d’ampleur grâce aux réseaux sociaux.
Loujain al Hathloul a été arrêtée le 30 novembre. Maysa al Amoudi a été appréhendée le 1er décembre.
Après quelques interrogatoires, elles ont été emprisonnées à al Ahsa, dans l’Est du pays.
Elles seront jugées par le tribunal qui traite habituellement les questions liées au terrorisme. Non pas parce qu’elles ont conduit une voiture, précisent les autorités saoudiennes, mais en raison de leurs activités sur les réseaux sociaux jugées subversives.
A elles deux, ces deux femmes totalisaient plus de 355.000 lecteurs (« followers ») sur Twitter. De quoi être considérées comme un danger pour le gouvernement saoudien !
