Au fils des décennies, les femmes faisant de plus en plus d’études, l’âge du premier enfant reculent d’autant, ce qui est une des causes possibles de la baisse de la natalité. Pour vérifier si cela joue effectivement un rôle comparons l’âge moyen du premier enfant avec l’indice final de fécondité (la moyenne mondiale est un indice de fécondité de 2.42 enfants par femmes, 81 pays sont au-dessus, 144 au-dessous dont 104 sous le seuil de renouvellement des générations) :

La réponse à la question posée en début d’article est donc, comme on le supposait, oui, même s’il y a des curiosités locales, toujours orientées dans le même sens (le Bangladesh avec des mariages précoces et un indice de fécondité moyen, le Nicaragua qui ne renouvelle pas les générations malgré le premier nouveau-né arrivant en moyenne à 19 ans). Des statistiques dans les milieux de la tradition pourrait d’ailleurs donner la tendance inverse (femmes avec le premier né à 26 ans et un nombre total d’enfants atteignant ou dépassant les 8…)
