Plutôt que le lamentable Hervé Le Bras, négationniste du grand remplacement, le plus grand démographe français est sans aucun doute Philippe Bourcier de Carbon. En 1992, il prophétisait que le plus grand challenge de l’humanité en 2100 ne serait pas la surpopulation mais… le désert démographique.
Indéniablement, les faits semblent lui donner raison. Alors que la majorité des pays du monde est passée sous la barre des 2,1 enfants par femme – assurant le renouvellement des générations – l’Inde et même le Bangladesh voient la majorité de leur territoire passer sous le seuil fatidique, ce qui n’est pas le cas du Pakistan voisin. Ceci s’explique évidemment par le développement économique de l’Inde qui fait que plus le pays s’enrichit, plus la natalité baisse…
Voici l’état de la démographie dans ce qui fut jadis les Indes :
- Plus de 4 enfants par femme : Afghanistan, province pakistanaise du Baloutchistan.
- Plus de 3,8 enfants par femme : le reste du Pakistan.
- Entre 3,3 et 3,5 enfants par femme : Bihar (3,4), Meghalaya (3).
- Entre 2,6 et 3 enfants par femme : Uttar Pradesh (2,7), Nagaland (2,7), Manipur (2,6), Jharkhand (2,6).
- Plus de 2,4 enfants par femme : Rajasthan (2,4), Mizoram (2,4).
- Plus de 2,2 enfants par femme : 2 provinces du Bangladesh (Rangpur et Barisâl), Madhya Pradesh (2,3), Assam (2,2), Chhattisgarh (2,2).
- Plus de 2 enfants par femme : Haryana (2,1), Uttarakhand (2,1), Odisha (2,1), Arunachal Pradesh (2,1), Jammu-et-Cachemire (2), Gujarat (2).
- Plus de 1,8 enfant par femme : le reste du Bangladesh, Dadra-et-Nagar-Haveli, Himachal Pradesh (1,9), Maharashtra (1,9), Karnataka (1,8), Andhra Pradesh (1,8), Télangana (1,8), Bengale occidentale (1,8), Laquedives (1,8).
- Plus de 1,6 enfant par femme : Chandigarh, Dehli, Pondichéry, Tamil Nadu (1,7), Goa (1,7), Tripura (1,7), Penjab (1,6), Kerala (1,6).
- Plus de 1,4 enfant par femme : Andaman-et-Nicobar (1,5).
- 1,17 enfant par femme: Sikkim.
- Chiffres inconnus : Daman et Diu.
Indice de fécondité des 4 pays mentionnés : Afghanistan : 5,33 enfants par femme ; Bangladesh : 2,40 ; Inde : 2,48 ; Pakistan : 3,78 (chiffres de 2013, le taux est en train de s’effondrer, il n’est plus aujourd’hui que de 2,62 en 2017 !)
