Une convention réunissant des militaires transgenres de différents pays s’est tenue à Washington le 20 octobre. Sous l’intitulé « Perspectives on Transgender Military Service from Around the Globe« , cette convention a démarré à 9h par un mot d’accueil du Brigadier General Clara Adams-Ender de l’US Army.
Dix-huit pays autorisent les transsexuels et les transgenres à être des militaires. Mais, à ce stade, ce n’est pas officiellement accepté par les Etats-Unis. Pourtant, cette convention démontre que, dans les faits, c’est déjà toléré puisque des militaires américains sont venus y participer en uniforme et en signifiant leur identité.
En dehors de militaires américains, seuls cinq pays étaient représentés à cette convention : l’Australie, le Royaume-Uni, le Canada, la Suède et la Nouvelle-Zélande. Les présents étaient de tous grades : troupe, sous-officiers et officiers.
