L’Ordinariat militaire du Canada ou diocèse militaire de ce pays a été créé en 1951 par le saint pape Pie XII en 1951. Il dépend directement du Saint Siège. Le chapelain général en était Mgr Donald Thériault. Or c’est le colonel John Fletcher qui a été nommé à ce poste en 2010. Son rôle est d’assurer les baptêmes, mariages et autres nécessités spirituelles des catholiques de l’armée canadienne. Le problème est que ce dernier s’est affirmé comme homosexuel. Son prédécesseur explique qu’il ne regrette nullement d’avoir assisté à la cérémonie d’installation de son successeur. Son explication ? « Le mariage de personnes de même sexe a été accepté par le Canada et nous ne pouvons pas juger la personne non plus que sa capacité à exercer un travail basé sur son orientation sexuelle ». (inf. Lifesitenews, 3 oct 2013). Le pape François avait lui-même déclaré « Si une personne est gay, qui suis–je pour la juger ? » Pie XII doit se retourner dans sa tombe. »
