Les indépendantistes catalans, souvent d’extrême gauche, se montrent de plus en plus hargneux contre tout ce qui symbolise l’Espagne. Un habitant de Mollet del Valles, village près de Barcelone, en fait les frais pour avoir arboré le drapeau de l’Espagne sur la façade de sa maison. Apparemment, la présence de l’emblème national à quelques mètres d’un local de l’Unité Populaire (CUP), exaspère les militants de cette formation de la gauche radicale.
Francisco Piñeiro, a expliqué que l’un des membres de la CUP avait exigé qu’il retire « ce chiffon » et, devant le refus de Pineiro, a appelé la police. Pineiro déplore que «l’Espagne soit le seul pays au monde où l’on doive s’expliquer avec la police pour avoir affiché le drapeau national ».
«Ils m’ont traité de tout, de « bâtard fasciste », m’ont menacé de me tirer dessus … Mais je vais continuer à exposer le drapeau de l’Espagne à Mollet. C’est ma façon de me battre pour ce merveilleux pays, qui appartient à tout le monde et pas seulement aux séparatistes. Je me bats pour la dignité d’une région qui a accueilli des gens merveilleux comme mes parents et mes grands-parents, originaires d’Estrémadure » a déclaré Piñeiro à la presse.
