Boris Johnson met en acte son plan pour éviter un possible renvoi du Brexit.
Selon ce que réfère la BBC et le chroniquer politique Nick Robinson, confirmé d’ailleurs par le premier ministre, le gouvernement anglais, mené par Johnson, demandera aujourd’hui à la reine Elizabeth II, de consentir à la suspension des travaux du Parlement, à partir de mi-septembre et pour une durée de 5 semaines. Si cela advenait, et il n’y aurait pas de recours possible, il est improbable que les députés auraient alors le temps d’approuver une quelconque loi qui puisse empêcher le premier ministre de porter le Royaume-Uni en-dehors de l’union Européenne d’ici le 31 octobre, avec ou sans accord.

Le quotidien italien Il Corriere della Sera note que Boris Johnson n’est pas enthousiaste à l’idée de suspendre le Parlement mais ne veut pas en exclure la possibilité. Dans un entretien à la BBC en marge du G7, le premier ministre britannique a déclaré que la possibilité d’un accord pour la sortie du Royaume-Uni de l’UE s’améliore cependant. Mais quoi qu’il en soit de ce dernier, le Royaume-Uni doit selon Johnson doit se préparer à une sortie de l’UE, avec ou sans accord, d’ici le 31 octobre.
