Brésil – Jeudi, alors qu’il était porté par une foule en liesse, le député Jair Bolsonaro, donné favori pour l’élection présidentielle, a été victime d’un attentat, poignardé par un opposant qualifié maintenant de « déséquilibré ».
Rappelons qui est Jair Bolsonaro.
Cet ancien militaire parachutiste de 62 ans affiche ses convictions catholiques et patriotes : « Le Brésil a besoin d’un président honnête, un patriote, au sang jaune et vert (les couleurs dominantes du drapeau national) et avec Jésus dans le cœur », a-t-il scandé en 2017, lors d’un discours retransmis en direct sur Facebook aux allures de lancement de campagne électorale.
Jair Bolsonaro a des convictions affirmées. Il veut lutter contre l’insécurité qui sévit dans le pays et propose de rétablir la peine de mort et d’autoriser le port d’armes.
Il veut aussi mater la corruption. Jair Bolsonaro dispose à ce sujet d’un atout de taille : il est l’un des rares hommes politiques brésiliens de premier plan dont le nom n’a jamais été cité dans un scandale de corruption. L’ex-président Lula ne peut pas en dire autant : il a été condamné récemment à 9 ans et 6 mois de prison pour corruption et pourrait être empêché de se présenter à l’élection si la sentence est confirmée en deuxième instance.
Fervent catholique, il s’affiche avec pour slogan : « Le Brésil au-dessus de tout, Dieu au-dessus de tous ».
Il est aussi un farouche opposant au lobby LGBT.
Nationaliste, il manie volontiers le politiquement incorrect.
Rapidement conduit au bloc opératoire, son pronostic vital ne serait plus engagé. Il reste maintenant à savoir si son état de santé lui permettra de rester candidat.
