Selon des fuites d’origine irakiennes, publiées par la presse espagnole ce jour , les Etats-Unis ont commencé à bombarder Mossoul, capitale du califat de l’Etat Islamique située dans la province de Ninive et conquise par les islamistes le 10 juin. Les bombardements américains s’étaient localisées jusqu’à ce jour autour de Erbil assiégée par les djihadistes et aujourd’hui libérée. Ils avaient concernés aussi le barrage de Mossoul, et les villes de Majmur et Syniar. Ces bombardements accompagnaient des offensives victorieuses des Peschmergas, ces combattants kurdes à la tête de la lutte contre la domination islamiste.
Les positions bombardées se situent à l’est et au sud de la ville de Mossoul. Ces bombardements américains viennent en complément d’attaques aériennes diligentées par l’armée irakienne. C’est ce qu’a expliqué Mohamed el Bayati qui dirige la sécurité de l’Etat de Ninive. Dans les deux cas plusieurs sjihadistes ont été tués. L’objectif stratégique est, bien sûr, de libérer la ville en en reprenant le contrôle.
D’autres bombardements visent à empêcher la prise du barrage de Haditha (province de Al Anbar), le deuxième du pays que les djihadistes essayent de prendre.
