Dans ces 38 personnes, on compte beaucoup de femmes et d’enfants qui ont été tués dans la nuit de mercredi à ce jeudi dans le sud-est du Niger lors d’une attaque menée par les combattants islamistes de Boko Haram, a annoncé le ministre nigérien de l’Intérieur.
«Des éléments du groupe terroriste Boko Haram ont mené des attaques sur les villages de Lamana et Ngoumao, dans la commune de Gueskérou, dans la région de Diffa», a déclaré le ministre Hassoumi Massaoudou à la radio publique. «Le bilan global provisoire est de 38 civils morts, dont 14 hommes, 14 femmes et 10 enfants», a-t-il poursuivi.
Il s’agit des plus lourdes pertes civiles enregistrées au Niger depuis que le pays est entré en guerre contre le groupe armé nigérian début février. Le ministre de l’Intérieur a également fait état de trois personnes blessées lors de la dernière attaque, qui ont été évacuées à l’hôpital de la capitale provinciale Diffa, alors que «plus de 100 maisons» ont été incendiées.
«Des opérations tant aériennes que terrestres sont actuellement engagées» par les forces de sécurité nigériennes pour «rattraper et neutraliser» les assaillants, a affirmé Hassoumi Massaoudou, promettant que le gouvernement mettrait «tout en œuvre» pour «traquer partout et vaincre définitivement ces hordes terroristes».
Notons que c’est l’attaque la plus meurtrière perpétrée contre des civils dans le pays, depuis qu’il est entré en guerre contre le groupe armé en février.
