Le bilan officiel mais non définitif des attentats de Bruxelles, à l’aéroport de Zaventem puis à la station Maelbeek du métro bruxellois, est de 31 morts et environ 250 blessés, dont plusieurs personnes gravement mutilées. On sait maintenant que les explosifs utilisés étaient des bombes à clous dont les effets ravagent les corps.
Toutes les victimes ne sont pas encore identifiées.
D’autre part, selon les enquêteurs, les deux explosions à l’aéroport de Zaventem sont le fait de deux kamikazes, identifiés comme les frères Khalid et Ibrahim El Bakraoui, âgés de 27 et 30 ans, déjà recherchés par la police.
En octobre 2010, Ibrahim El Bakraoui avait été condamné par le tribunal correctionnel de Bruxelles pour avoir ouvert le feu avec une kalachnikov sur des policiers le 30 janvier 2010, boulevard Adolphe Max, à Bruxelles, et rue de Wautier, à Laeken, dans le cadre d’un braquage chez un agent de change. Il avait été condamné à une peine de 9 ans de prison.
En février 2011, Khalid El Bakraoui avait été condamné à 5 ans de prison sans sursis pour des car-jackings.
On remarquera que ces deux individus ont été relâchés bien avant d’avoir accompli leurs peines de prison.
