Royaume-Uni – Non, ce n’est pas une plaisanterie ni un hoax. Les officiers supérieurs de la police de West Midlands ont révélé qu’ils discutent de savoir s’il faut permettre que la burka puisse faire partie de l’uniforme de femmes musulmanes enrôlées dans la police !
Le débat est ouvert car la direction de la police cherche à accroître « la diversité » dans ses rangs. Le chef de la police, David Thompson, a déclaré qu’il examine cette question dans le cadre du renforcement de la diversité ethnique dans la police. « En l’état, nous avons pas eu d’approches de recrues potentielles demandant de porter la burqa, mais si une telle approche devait être faite, c’est quelque chose que nous aurions à prendre en considération. »
La police britannique a déjà accepté que des agents portent le hidjab, de même que des policiers d’origine sikhs ont été autorisés à porter un turban.
Le hidjab – un foulard couvrant la tête et le cou mais laissant le visage apparent – avait été demandé par un certain nombre de femmes musulmanes engagées dans la police. La burka pourrait donc être l’étape suivante…
