La ville était pourtant en bonne position mais il semblerait que des questions d’argent aient fait capoter la candidature. La Fédération Française de Cyclisme demandait à la ville 500.000 euros. S’ajoutaient à cela des contraintes techniques.  Les dates du 26 au 29 juin tombaient en même temps que celles de la Grande braderie d’été. La ville s’est donc retirée. Pour se consoler, le Tour de France a de fortes chances de faire étape à Besançon en 2014. Le parcours sera connu le 24 octobre !
