Le Comte (Graf en allemand) Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg (1907-1944) est l’officier allemand resté célèbre pour l’attentat raté contre Hitler le 20 juillet 1944.
Les éditions du Rocher lui consacrent un album de grande qualité au format du roman graphique, entièrement en noir et blanc, au dessin soigné et au scénario fouillé, réhaussé en appendice d’un cahier photos et d’explications relatives aux principaux protagonistes de ce complot contre Adolf Hitler, la fameuse opération Walkyrie.
Cette bande dessinée rappelle de nombreux faits méconnus du grand public. Le Comte Claus von Stauffenberg, pétri de mystique germanique, a été formé au sein du cercle « Allemagne secrète » qui réunissait des intellectuels et des artistes autour du poète Stefan George, chantre des racines éternelles germaniques. Bien que participant à l’essor du nationalisme allemand durant l’entre deux guerres, ce cercle était dépourvu de tout antisémitisme et l’écrivain juif allemand Karl Wolfskehl, passionné de mythologie germanique, y était une figure de proue.
Et qui sait encore que l’épouse du jeune frère du Comte Claus von Stauffenberg, Melitta, née de parents juifs convertis au christianisme, était pilote d’essai pour la Luftwaffe et a participé à améliorer la technique du bombardement en piqué ?
Au travers de ce récit extrêmement bien documenté, nous voyons comment von Stauffenberg, jeune officier de la Wehrmacht, issu de la vieille aristocratie prussienne, fut d’abord un soutien d’Adolf Hitler et un brillant officier qui participa à la campagne de Pologne, puis à la bataille de France avant d’être muté à la section d’organisation du commandement suprême de l’Armée de terre puis à l’état-major général de la Xème division de blindés qui devait couvrir la retraite de l’armée du maréchal Rommel en 1943. C’est au cours d’une mission de reconnaissance que son véhicule est mitraillé. Grièvement blessé, il perd son œil gauche, sa main droite et deux doigts de la main gauche. C’est peu après qu’il commence à prendre ses distances avec le nazisme et rejoint des cercles conservateurs de conjurés préparant un coup d’Etat…
Cette bande dessinée ne manquera donc pas d’intéresser non seulement le public amateur de BD à thème historique mais aussi plus largement ceux qui s’intéressent à la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
