Yvon Bertorello (à qui l’on doit notamment une BD sur la Garde pontificale et une autre sur l’incendie Notre-Dame de Paris), Eric Stoffel (qui a joliment adapté Marcel Pagnol en BD chez Grand Angle), Michel Espinosa (qui est notamment l’auteur de bandes dessinées consacrées à la Corse) et Frédéric Allali (jusqu’ici spécialisé dans les bandes dessinées consacrées à l’histoire de l’aéronautique), ont formé une équipe efficace pour réaliser ce deuxième tome d’Ad Romam.
Cette bande dessinée est conçue de façon très pédagogique et permettra aisément aux grands adolescents de voyager dans le temps, comme Blaise, l’un des personnages de cet album, étudiant plongé par enchantement dans la Rome antique. Blaise, ses amis et le lecteur découvrent Fossae Marianae, l’un des grands ports antiques de la Méditerranée.
Cet épisode d’Ad Romam nous entraîne dans les pas du général romain Caius Marius menant la guerre aux Cimbres et aux Teutons. Une guerre qui nous conduit au confluent de l’Isère et du Rhône.
Les décors antiques sont magnifiquement reconstitués avec une grande précision et mis en valeur par des couleurs lumineuses. Le récit met en lumière des faits historiques mais aussi les croyances des peuples antiques. Au passage, une scène d’un marché des esclaves en Arles rappelle discrètement que les marchands d’esclaves de l’époque étaient arabes…
