« La BBC est anti-catholique et, en thème de religion, décidément ignorante. » Tel est le jugement lapidaire émis par une ancienne journaliste de la principale télévision de Sa Majesté la Reine Élisabeth, Catherine Utley.
Cette dernière a dénoncé, mardi dernier, dans les colonnes du quotidien The Article, l’esprit anti-religieux de la BBC anglaise qui a atteint son plus haut niveau lors de l’incendie de Notre-Dame-de-Paris, présenté comme « la destruction d’une attraction touristique très visitée ». « A les entendre, écrit-elle, on avait l’impression que ce n’était qu’un musée qui était en train de brûler. »
La journaliste fait remarquer que durant tout le programme « aucun de ces mots n’a été prononcé : chrétien, christianisme, catholique, adoration, adorateurs, sacré, messe, semaine sainte ». « Désormais, continue-t-elle, seule question catholique revient sur le devant de la scène : la question des abus sexuels. »
Dans un entretien datant de quelques années, un ex-directeur général de la chaîne, Mark Thompson, avait admis que la religion catholique était traitée avec moins d’égards et de sensibilité que les autres religions. L’anti-catholicisme primaire des protestants ne s’éteint pas…
