Certains élus locaux ont parfois un curieux goût à importer dans leur commune des conflits étrangers. Médias et blogs juifs comme musulmans se sont emparés d’une motion votée par les élus communistes de Bagnolet qui épouvante les uns et satisfait les autres.
Le conseil municipal de Bagnolet, à majorité communiste, a adopté jeudi une motion décernant le titre de citoyen d’honneur de la ville au détenu libanais Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, qui entame sa trentième année de prison en France pour le meurtre de deux diplomates, l’attaché militaire de l’ambassade américaine Charles Ray et le diplomate israélien Yacov Barsimentov, abattus à Paris en 1982. Des assassinats revendiqués par les Fractions armées révolutionnaires libanaises (FARL) et commis en réponse au conflit israélo-palestinien.
“Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, militant communiste, a fait partie de la résistance lorsque son pays, le Liban, a été envahi par Israël en 1978. Il est un défenseur acharné de la juste cause palestinienne.”, indique la motion votée. “Afin de faire grandir l’exigence de sa libération, le conseil municipal déclare citoyen d’honneur de Bagnolet Georges Ibrahim Abdallah.”, conclut-elle.
Âgé de 60 ans, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah est incarcéré en France depuis 1984. Au terme d’un procès très médiatisé, il avait été condamné en 1987 à la réclusion criminelle à perpétuité. Les autorités américaines et israéliennes ont, à plusieurs reprises, exprimé leur opposition à une sortie de prison de Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, alors que la période de sûreté assortie à sa peine a pris fin en 1999.
En 2012 déjà, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah avait été fait citoyen d’honneur des communes de Calonne-Ricouart et de Grenay.
