Philippe Maxence est historien, écrivain et journaliste.
Robert Baden-Powell, général britannique, est entré dans l’histoire pour avoir lancé un mouvement de jeunesse, le scoutisme, cher à l’imaginaire de générations d’adolescents. L’homme qui crée le scoutisme en 1907, année du premier camp scout, n’est pourtant pas un homme tout jeune. Il vient d’avoir cinquante ans. De son enfance, de sa carrière militaire qui s’est principalement déroulée dans les colonies britanniques, il a tiré des leçons et un enseignement pratique. Les hasards de l’histoire ont fait de lui un véritable héros national. Il a connu l’aventure, l’exotisme et la gloire. Il a lu et assimilé également. Le scoutisme qu’il propose aux jeunes garçons britanniques découle de tout cela.
Ce livre retrace l’existence de Baden-Powell et nous montre comment il est devenu le Chef scout mondialement célèbre.
